Micrographs of Vitrified Brain

The following 43 electron micrographs were obtained at various magnifications and locations within the cerebral cortex of a rabbit brain that had been perfused with M22 vitrification solution, vitrified to a temperature of -130 °C, and rewarmed. They demonstrate good structural preservation with dehydration artifacts, but no ice damage. These are unpublished micrographs from the published paper The Arrest of Biological Time as a Bridge to Engineered Negligible Senescence, Ann. N.Y. Acad. Sci. 1019: 559563 (2004).
